Homebuyer Education

Elmwood Foundation offers a full-service Homebuyer Education Program and Financial Counseling for families seeking to buy their first home and to persons needing assistance with credit problems.

Homebuyer Education Programs at EF include:
• First Time Homebuyer Classes and Landlord Training in Spanish and English
• Personal Financial Counseling
• Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention, Predatory Lending Counseling, Credit Counseling
• Pre- and Post-Purchase Counseling

Nina Demunoz, EF Housing Counselor, provides pre- and post-purchase counseling to first-time homebuyers in the Elmwood neighborhood.

Annually, 300 prospective homeowners receive training in homeownership and personal financial management through EF.

Home Repair Loans

Elmwood Foundation offers low interest Home Repair Loans for owner occupied homes in Ward #9 to make repairs and improvements to their homes. Loans up to $15,000 are available at low interest rates. Credit approval is easy and a consultant is available to assist homeowners in preparing a scope of work and reviewing contractor bids. Applications are available at the Elmwood Foundation Office or by calling 401-273-2330 to request a packet by mail. Debora Rotondo, Office Manager, will assist homeowners with application process.

Youth Programming

TEF’s Youth RAP Program offers education, recreation and employment opportunities to youth ages 11-17 living in TEF’s affordable rental housing. These activities include a Summer Community Garden Program; and provides employment skills, financial education, and civic engagement precedents that will prepare the youth for productive and fulfilling careers. Youth Rap also offers recreational opportunities in the form of field trips and social events. Rachel Newman Greene serves as the YouthRAP Program Coordinator.
